Commands can be sent from the operator interface to change transmitter parameters or reset transmitter output ranges. In return the transmitter sends process and status data to the operator via the FEC module and the control module interface (MFP/MFC).

Control module with FEC module on I/O expander bus. The FSK intelligent transmitter communicates with the IMFEC11 module at a rate of 9600 baud. To prevent changes in transmitter configuration during normal operation, the module sends a secure byte to the transmitter at the beginning of each transmitter communication.

The safe byte triggers smart transmitter to receive configuration commands only from the module, unless the FEC module takes the transmitter offline. Security Byteclock outputs configuration commands from other operator interfaces such as the STT03 smart transmitter terminal.

All the equipment can monitor the transmitter. When the transmitter receives a secure byte, it sets a timer for two minutes. The timer counts down until another command is received to reset the timer. Usually the timer does not expire because the module resets the two-minute timer before it expires.
